WARD COMMITS TO DIVISION-II OCU EAGLES

Christian Ward will signed a letter of intent Wednesday, May 16th to play baseball at Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, OK. Before relocating to Bixby, Ward played under Coach Lonny Cobble at Edmond Santa Fe. Cobble announced in late April (NEWSOK story HERE) that he would be taking the coaching job at OCU where he will signed his former player this May. Although an NAIA school since the 1960's, OCU has recently been approved by the NCAA to join Division II and will play a full Heartland Conference schedule during the 2012-13 school year. Christian will major in Business.

Despite hit advantage, Bixby drops 7-5 game to Sand Springs

Bixby lost 7-5 in seven innings at home on Monday, despite outhitting top-3 Sand Springs 12 to nine. Beau Fraley was steady at the plate for Bixby. Fraley went 3-4 and scored two runs. He singled in the first and fourth innings and is shown here by K.D. Wells Photography after doubling in the sixth inning. The Spartans were led on the mound for 4 innings by Senior Tanner Eckert.

After a quick strike from Sand Springs, Bixby responded with two runs in the first. The Spartans scored on an RBI single by senior Tanner Eckert and a groundout by Kyle Baker.

Sand Springs went up for good in the second, scoring one run on an RBI single by Hackerott. One run in the bottom of the 3rd helped Bixby bring the game to within 3 runs at 6-3. An RBI double by Kyle Baker sparked a rally, but the threat came to an end when Sandite pitcher, Boyd finally got Parker McDonald to strike out. Senior Christian Ward doubled in the bottom of the fifth, and a groundout RBI by Baker triggered Bixby's comeback, pushing Ward across the plate. However, Sand Springs stopped the march after a groundout by Sophomore Tristian Cavalli.

One run in the bottom of the sixth helped Bixby close its deficit to 6-5. An RBI single by Jackson Anthony gave Bixby life. The Sandites scored one more in the 7^th but the Spartans couldn’t answer, leaving Cavalli stranded on base.

Upcoming Events and deadlines:

Diamond League sign up sheet is in the locker room for current high school players. All players are expected to play unless cleared by Coach Nichol. Cost is $200, which includes 15 games. Checks are to be made out to Bixby Diamond League.

***BRING YOUR CHECK TO COACH NICHOL AT THE INDOOR FACILITY THIS FRIDAY OR SATURDAY.*** Schedule will follow as soon as possible with which team each player is on.

May 19th: 6A East-West allstar game hosted at Bixby High School doubleheader starts at noon. Contact Jason Fisher to volunteer.

May 22nd: Senior Baseball Banquet at the Multipurpose Building 6:30-9:00. Dress code for players is jeans and a polo/nice shirt (business casual). 2012-13 BBBC executive officer elections.

June 2nd: Habitat for Humanity build volunteer event. See Maureen Roden for sign-ups and get another community outreach event to add to your college scholarship application!

June 4-6th: Bixby Spartan Baseball 2012 summer camp 10:00-1:00, Bixby high school facilities

June 9th: ACT Bixby High School

July 9th & July 10th: Incoming freshman Spring 2013 team tryouts from 12:00-3:00 (both days) at the high school baseball field. Any current Bixby Middle School 8th-grade student is eligible for tryouts. Bring appropriate gear: Glove, cleats, bat, helmet, catcher's gear (if needed).
